Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Catholic BibleThe catechism is the text in which an organic synthesis of the essential and fundamental contents of the Christian doctrine regarding both faith and morals is presented.
In the case of the Catholic Church, its catechisms are based primarily on the Tradition of the Church interpreted in the light of Vatican II. Its main sources are the Sacred Scripture, the Fathers, the Liturgy and the Magisterium of the Church. It is intended to serve "as a point of reference for the catechisms or compendia that are composed in the various countries" (Synod of Bishops 1985. Final Report II B A 4).
There is a longer version promulgated on 11 October 1992 by John Paul II and the Compendium, promulgated by Pope Benedict XVI on June 28, 2005, which is a faithful and sure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church synthesis. It contains, in concise form, all the essential and fundamental faith of the Church elements in a way that constitutes, according to what is described in its submission by the Pope "a kind of vademecum through which people, believers or not, they may include a single glance the entire panorama of the Catholic faith. "
