What is Ayo?
Ayo is a traditional "sow and capture" game that has been played in Nigeria and across West Africa for centuries. Two players sit opposite each other with a wooden board containing twelve pits. The goal is simple: capture more seeds than your opponent. It's a game of calculation and tactics, where the best players think several moves ahead. Our version stays true to the authentic rules, delivering the classic challenge that has been enjoyed for generations.
How to Play:
1.The game starts with 48 seeds, with four seeds in each of the 12 pits.
2.Players take turns choosing one of their six pits to "sow." All seeds from the chosen pit are dropped one-by-one into the subsequent pits in a counter-clockwise direction.
3.If the last seed you sow lands in an opponent's pit that now contains two or three seeds, you capture all the seeds in that pit. You can also capture seeds from preceding pits if they also meet the capture criteria.
4.The game ends when one player has no more seeds to sow.
5.The player who has captured the most seeds at the end of the game wins!
